How we handle personal information in Scoring. Last updated 2 September 2026.
Scoring is a free service operated by Komuco, based in Melbourne, Australia. It helps sporting clubs run ladders, leagues and cup events.
We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. If you have a question about this policy, email paul@komuco.com.
We collect three kinds of information:
We do not collect dates of birth, ages, addresses, photographs or profile pictures, payment details, or any sensitive information such as health, biometric, racial, religious or political information. We do not ask for these and there is nowhere in the service to enter them.
Most players in Scoring never sign in — a club administrator enters them so their results can be recorded. This means we often hold information about someone who has not dealt with us directly.
If you run a club, only enter another person’s contact details where you are entitled to do so, and let them know their name and results will be recorded in Scoring and may be published if your competition is public.
If you are a player and your details are in Scoring, you can ask us to correct or remove them by emailing paul@komuco.com, whether or not you have an account.
We use personal information to:
We do not sell personal information, and we do not disclose it for advertising. Scoring carries no advertising, no analytics and no tracking of any kind.
Competitions are private by default. Results become visible to anyone on the internet only when a club opts in twice: the club itself is set to public, and the individual competition is set to public and is no longer a draft.
When a competition is public, the names of players and their match results, ladder positions and ratings can be seen by anyone and may be indexed by search engines. Email addresses and phone numbers are never published.
A club can change either setting at any time. Making a competition private again removes it from the public directory, though search engines may keep a cached copy for a while.
Scoring sets only what it needs to work:
There are no advertising or tracking cookies. Blocking cookies will stop you signing in, but the public pages will still work.
Scoring can accept spoken scores. This uses speech recognition built into your web browser, which you start explicitly and which runs only while you are using it.
In some browsers — Google Chrome in particular — the browser sends the captured audio to its own servers to convert it to text, under that browser vendor’s privacy policy. We receive only the resulting text, and we never record, store or transmit audio ourselves. If you would rather not use it, enter scores by tapping instead.
We use a small number of providers to run the service. Each is bound by its own privacy commitments and may handle personal information only to provide its service to us.
These providers store and process information outside Australia, principally in the United States. By using Scoring you consent to your information being disclosed to them on that basis. We do not otherwise disclose personal information overseas.
We keep a club’s competition history for as long as the club uses Scoring, because past results are the point of a ladder or a rating.
When a player, competition or club is deleted in the app it is hidden from view but the underlying record is retained, so that historical results stay intact and we keep an audit trail of who was a member of a club. Records also persist in backups for a period after deletion. If you want information permanently destroyed rather than hidden, ask us — see below.
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email paul@komuco.com.
These requests are handled manually — there is no self-service button in the app today. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify who you are first, and in some cases we may need to keep certain records, for example where deleting a player would corrupt a completed competition’s results. If we cannot do what you have asked, we will tell you why.
You can also manage or delete your sign-in account through our authentication provider’s account page. Note that this removes your ability to sign in but does not by itself delete the club and match records described above — email us if you want those removed too.
Access to club data requires signing in, and each club can only see its own records. Information is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with the providers listed above. No online service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access.
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us first at paul@komuco.com so we can try to put it right.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
We may update this policy as the service changes. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated shown at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will make that clear in the app.
